Testing Overview

Over its 26-year history, the company has developed a battery of tests to evaluate the skills of interpreter applicants and document the skill-set of interpreters who it has hired.

Language Line Services highly qualified and diverse interpreter workforce, as well as it staff of experienced managers, has enabled it to develop the company’s internal quality assurance.

Its commitment to quality in interpreting services led to the decision to offer its assessment tools to clients and other external parties interested in measuring the skills of their bilingual staff. It does this through its external testing and training arm, Language Line® University.

Language Line University

Language Line Services’ testing programs are designed to evaluate the skills of bilingual individuals at various levels.

These programs can be used to:
  • Assess the oral proficiency of bilingual staff (Language Proficiency Test),
  • Screen new interpreters for hiring purposes,
  • Measure the knowledge and skill-set of existing interpreters (Interpreter Skills Test), and
  • Document the knowledge and experience in the field of healthcare interpreting (Medical Certification Test).

All Language Line University tests have been externally validated by psychometricians and experts in the field.

Tests are delivered over the phone, making the assessments accessible and cost-effective for test candidates, and all tests are recorded for quality assurance purposes.

Test results reports include specific feedback on the candidate’s performance, as well as recommendations for improvement.
